The Cumbrae Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) represents the first steps of a path towards a low carbon future for Cumbrae. One in which both residents and visitors thrive in a connected, healthy, and prosperous community acting collaboratively and individually to address the challenges of climate change.
Why Is The Action Plan Important?
- The Community Climate Action Plan enables us to identify and define the priorities of the Cumbrae community.
- Understanding the challenges and opportunities of net-zero, allows us to plan for change and ensure the whole community benefits.
- It puts you and the rest of our community in the driving seat – shaping the future of Cumbrae and helping lead the way for all Scottish Islands to achieve net-zero 2040.

The CCAP combines the findings of the carbon audits for Cumbrae with the projects and goals prioritised by our Cumbrae community. This plan is a living document owned by the community. Together with HIE we will be building a community investment strategy to determine the best ways to fund these actions in the longer term.

The six Community Climate Action Plans were launched in Cumbrae in June 2023 by Mairi Gougeon, Cabinet Secretary Rural Affairs, Land Reform and Islands. At which time she stated:
This is an exciting project and I am delighted to see the six islands reach this stage. Supporting these islands in their journey towards net zero will not only benefit the environment, but will energise local economies and improve the general wellbeing of islanders.
The impact of this project will extend well beyond the shores of the six islands. The knowledge gained throughout this journey will be shared to help support all of Scotland’s island communities, and indeed mainland communities, as they seek to forge a future that is both climate-friendly and sustainable.
The publication of the six plans is a huge achievement for those involved and marks a significant milestone for the project. Community support is vital to its success - and so I’d like to congratulate everyone who has engaged with us, and helped us to reach this important point.
